Ivan Civic
Ivan Civic (born June 30, 1979 in Sarajevo ) is an Italian performance artist .
Life
From 1999 to 2006 Civic studied fine arts at the University of Fine Arts in Braunschweig with Marina Abramović , Birgit Hein and Mara Mattuschka . From 2005 to 2006 he was a master student of Marina Abramović. He was a member of the Independent Performance Group (IPG).
Civic's works (performance video installation photography and design) focus on the analysis of society and its structures, the search for boundaries within conventional unions (such as in the family, relationships, cultural and intellectual environments) in order to form an effective and real bond. Through the use of symbols and fetishes from domestic circles (intimate and private) and from everyday life (fashion, advertising, hyper-beauty, status symbols), the artist expresses mechanisms, dynamics, contradictions and conflicts of every type of relational environment in his works out.
Since 2010, Civic has been working with Robert Wilson and Marina Abramović on the play The Life and Death of Marina Abramović .
