Iwan Iwanowitsch Garanin ( Russian Иван Иванович Гаранин ; born August 1, 1945 in Rudny , Kostanay ) is a former Soviet cross-country skier .

Garanin made his first international appearance at the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo . He was able to take 17th place over 50 km. In the same year he won the Svenska Skidspelen in Lycksele with the relay. He won his first medal at world championships in 1974 at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun , Sweden , when he won second place in the relay. Over 50 km Garanin came fourth. At the Winter Olympics two years later in Innsbruck he won his first international individual medal - bronze over 30 km. He also won bronze again with the relay, over 15 km and 50 km he reached fourth place. In 1977 he was at the Lahti Ski Games in the 50 km run and third in the relay.

In 1977 Garanin was the first Soviet cross-country skier to win the Vasa race . In 1980 he won the Marcialonga . He won a total of seven national titles.

After his active career, Garanin worked as a trainer in his native Kazakhstan .
