Rudny ( Kazakh and Russian Рудный ) is a city on the Tobol River in the Qostanai region in Kazakhstan . It was founded in 1955 and has a population of around 115,000.

Of the 124,098 inhabitants of the city are 59.1 percent Russians , 19.7 percent of Kazakhs and 21.2 percent of other nationalities, including Germans of Kazakhstan .
history
The city was founded on August 30, 1957 in place of the former workers' settlement.
economy
The economy is dominated by mining operations . There are large deposits of iron ore in the vicinity . The Qaratomar reservoir is located on Tobol above the city and is used for the water supply.

Rudny is home to the Rudniy Industrial Institute .
