Lisakovsk ( Kazakh and Russian Лисаковск ) is a city in Kazakhstan . It is located in the north of the country in the Qostanai area on the Tobol River and has around 36,000 inhabitants.
history
Lisakovsk was founded in 1950 as a settlement around an iron ore mining combine, and in 1971 it received city status. The city has a fox in its coat of arms, as its name is associated with the corresponding Russian word лиса / lissa . However, not far from today's city there was a village called Lyssakowka since the beginning of the 20th century , later also in the spelling Lissakowka , whose name is more likely to be derived from the family name Lyss (j) ak , derived from the Russian word лысый / lyssy for "bald" or also "bald". At the time the city was founded, the village no longer existed, or it went under when the open-cast mine was opened up. The original meaning of the name was deemed inappropriate for the new city.
The cityscape is characterized by a large television tower reminiscent of the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
