Ines Torelli
Ines Torelli (born June 14, 1931 in St. Gallen as Ines Stierli ; † August 21, 2019 in Nova Scotia , Canada ) was a Swiss cabaret artist , singer and popular actress . In most of the roles she spoke the Swiss German dialect .
Life
Ines Torelli was born as Ines Stierli. Even as a child, she dreamed of performing on stage. After school she completed an apprenticeship as a tailor. In 1955 she got her first engagement at the Aargauer Cabaret Rüeblisaft , where she met her future husband Edi Baur (1919–2009), who was then a theater photographer . Together with Oskar Hoby , Regine Brandt and Alfred Bruggmann , she was part of the original line-up of the Cabaret; later she was replaced by Vera Furrer . In 1958 she switched to Cabaret Fédéral and later to “Äxgüsi”.
With growing success a stage name was needed. She freely translated her surname into Spanish (Toro = bull) and emphasized her combative nature with the little bull "Torelli".
In the 1970s she dared to take to the stage as a cabaret artist with her own program “Torelli total” and, among other things, delighted with her legendary parody of Marlene Dietrich . She sang and played in “ Bibi Balù ” as well as the “ small Niederdorfoper ” by Paul Burkhard , directed by Jörg Schneider.
A major success was the hit Gigi von Arosa , which premiered in January 1975 , a Swiss-German humorous adaptation of Dalidas Gigi l'Amoroso . Gigi is a ski instructor and a heartthrob here. As a singer with an unmistakable voice, she also performed with the Cabaret Rotstift .
Ines Torelli also made a career in Swiss television . In the 1970s she hosted the Saturday evening program “Zum doppelten Engel” together with Rosemarie Pfluger .
She became particularly well-known through the recordings of Kasperli sound carriers by and with Jörg Schneider and Paul Bühlmann . In 1982, 1 million records were sold.
In 1995 she emigrated with her husband, the theater producer Edi Baur, to Riverport in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia , where they had a wooden house built on a hill on a peninsula on Rose Bay. Edi Baur was able to open his own theater in the nearby town of Lunenburg in 1996 , two years later the authorities forced him to give up with high taxes. He died in 2009. The Swiss-Canadian dual citizen Torelli stayed in Canada and died in August 2019 at the age of 88.
