Hierotheus Kosakov

Iwajlo Stanislawow Kossakow ( Bulgarian Ивайло Станиславов Косаков ; born February 1, 1977 in Veliko Tarnowo ) is a Bulgarian Orthodox clergyman and theologian , titular bishop of Agathopol and vicar of the Metropolitan of Sliven . He is also abbot of the Pomorie Monastery and resides under the name of Bishop Hierotheus von Agathopol ( Bulgarian Йеротей Агатополски ).

His ecclesiastical career began as a novice in the Pomorie monastery on the Black Sea coast under the guidance of his mentor Archimandrite Theodosius. In December 2003 he was accepted as a monk in the brotherhood of the monastery. In 2005 he graduated from the Theological Seminary in Sofia. In May 2004 he was ordained a priest and became a priest monk in his monastery. From January 1, 2005, he took over the management of the monastery and was officially appointed abbot on May 6, 2008 by Metropolitan Joanikij von Sliven . He obtained his master's degree from the theological faculty of the University of Shumen in 2010and remained at this university as a doctoral student in the field of church history. His supervisor is Ivan Karajotov , professor at the University of Shumen.

On September 18, 2014, by resolution of the Synod, he was appointed Bishop of Agathopol and on October 1, 2014, he was appointed as Vicar to the deputy of the Metropolitan of Sliven. He is a member of the Church Council of Bulgaria.
