Ivo Paunov

Ivo Paunov (* in Bulgaria ) is a Canadian jazz musician ( saxophone , kaval , piano) and film composer of Bulgarian origin.

Life

Ivo Paunov is the brother of filmmaker Andrey Paounov . At the age of 15, Paunov's family moved to Canada, where they settled in Toronto . He studied physics at the University of Toronto from 1995 to 1999 , computer science from 2000 to 2001 at Ryerson University and from 1998 to 2000 music at York University . Since then he has established himself as a composer for short, feature-length and documentary films.

As a saxophonist and flute player he played world jazz with Anton Apostolov in the band Mayaro ; he was also involved in Apostolov's album Balkania After the Rain (2010). He himself founded the band Afrodisiac (album of the same name in 2007), with which he performed at the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal . Then he founded the Acid Folk Five , with which he released the album Dragon's Bride in 2013 , on which the singer Ekaterina Anguelova is featured next to him. The group also performed at the 2015 Bansko Jazz Festival .
