Ivan Georgievich Yalgusidze

Ivan Georgievich Jalgusidse ( Ossetian Ӕгъуызаты Иуане , Russian Иван Георгиевич Ялгузидзе * 1775 in Salda , today Rajon dsau , South Ossetia , † 5. August 1830 in Tbilisi , Russian Empire ) was the first Ossetian writers of modern times.

Life

Jalgusidze came from the Gabarajew family, the successors of the old Algusata family. Jalguside attended a seminary and mastered Russian, Ossetian and Georgian. In 1820 he published the first textbook and the first catechism in the Ossetian language (but in the Georgian alphabet). Only the poem Algusiani ( Алгъуызы кадӕг ) has been transmitted from his works . He died in Tbilisi in 1830.
