Ivan Guryevich Rufanov

Ivan Guryevich Rufanow ( Russian Иван Гурьевич Руфанов ., Scientific transliteration Ivan Gurjevič Rufanov ; born January 3 jul. / 15. January  1884 greg. In Pereslavl-Zalessky , Government Moscow , Russian Empire ; † 15. June 1964 in Moscow , USSR ) was a Soviet surgeon. He has done significant work in the fields of pharmacology , clinical findings, and treatment of tetanus and sepsis . He received the Order of Lenin , twice the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and the medal “For heroic work in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945” .

Ivan Gurjewitsch Rufanow was born on January 15, 1886 into a financially weak family of doctors with many children. He spent his childhood and school years in the north-east of Moscow located Pereslavl-Zalessky . In 1905 he went to the medical faculty of Moscow University (now Lomonosov University Moscow ), after completing his studies at the pen in Pereslavl-Zalessky and Vladimir . In 1911 he finished the university and worked as an ordinator at the surgical nosocomial clinic under the direction of Professor Alexei Martynow. In 1914 he joined the First World War as a volunteer . From 1914 to 1918 worked as a surgeon. In 1924 Rufanow completed his dissertation on pancreatitis due to diseases of the biliary tract .

In 1930 he headed the Institute of General Surgery at NI Pirogov Russian State Medical University . In 1938 he became deputy head of the main department of educational institutions of the People's Commissar for Health of the USSR. During the Second World War he worked as a chief surgeon at the headquarters of the advanced military hospitals. In 1943 he began using penicillin in practice for the first time in the Soviet Union .

In the early 1950s Rufanov was Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Moscow University. In 1956, Rufanow organized a laboratory for clinical testing of antibiotics at the Botkin Hospital . In 1956 he was elected an academician of the Academy of Healing Sciences.

Rufanov was buried in Moscow's Novodevichy Cemetery in June 1964.
