Ivan Kapitonowitsch Luppol

Ivan Kapitonowitsch Luppol ( Russian Иван Капитонович Луппол ; born January 13, 1896 in Rostov-on-Don ; † May 26, 1943 ) was a Soviet literary critic and philosopher.

Life

Luppol graduated from Moscow State University's Law Faculty (MGU) and the Philosophy Department of the Institute of Red Professorship (IRP) in 1919 . He was professor at the MGU from 1925 to 1931 and of the IRP from 1925 to 1938. 1935 to 1938 also director of the Institute for World Literature. From 1933 he was a corresponding member of the academy and from 1939 a full member .

Luppol fell victim to the Stalin purges . In Saratov prison he shared his cell with Wawilow and Steklow . In May 1943 he died in a labor camp.
