Iwan Ossipowitsch Jarkowski (born May 24, 1844 in Osweja near Vitebsk , † January 22, 1902 in Heidelberg ) was a Polish civil engineer living in Russia .

Iwan Jarkowski came from a Polish noble family of the Korsak coat of arms . He was born in a small town in what is now Belarus . He completed his school education and his studies in Moscow . He was best known for his discovery of the Jarkowski effect . In 1888 he also developed a mechanical gravitation explanation . The asteroid (35334) Yarkovsky was named after him on August 9, 2006.
