Ivan Vasiliev

Ivan Wladimirowitsch Wassiljew ( Russian Иван Владимирович Васильев ; born January 9, 1989 in Tawritschanka , Primorsky Krai , Soviet Union) is a Russian ballet dancer .

Life

He received his first ballet lessons at the Dnepropetrovsk Ballet School in Ukraine . At the age of twelve he moved to the State Ballet Academy in Minsk , where he stayed until he graduated in 2006. In the same year he was invited to join the Bolshoi Ballet in the Russian capital as a solo dancer. He made his Moscow debut as Basilio in Don Quixote . May 2010 he was appointed Principal Dancer . His move from the Moscow Ballet to the Mikhailovsky Theater in St. Petersburg in autumn 2011 made global headlines. In the same year he appeared for the first time as a guest dancer at the American Ballet Theater (ABT) in New York City . He has been a Principal Dancer at ABT since September 2012 . In May 2013 he announced that he wanted to leave the Mikhailovsky.
