Ixodes is the most species-rich genus of ticks from the family of the tick family (Ixodidae) and comprises about 250 species . The best-known European representative is the common wood tick ( Ixodes ricinus ). Some species playa major roleas disease vectors ( vectors ).

description

All representatives are three-host, have no eyes and no festoons (' Hinterrandlappchen '). The capitulum ('little head') of female ticks is significantly longer than that of male.
