Izō Hashimoto
Izō Hashimoto ( Japanese 以 蔵 橋本 , Hashimoto Izō ; born February 21, 1954 in Shimane Prefecture , Japan ) is a Japanese screenwriter , film director and comic book writer .
Hashimoto made his directorial debut in 1982 with the film Isami . In the 1980s he wrote the scripts for some feature films as well as for anime series and films. Best known is his collaboration with Katsuhiro Otomo on the script for the animated film Akira (1988).
Since 1998 Akio Tanaka has been drawing the manga series Shamo based on a story by Hashimoto's . The main character in the manga kills his parents at the age of 16 and becomes a well-known martial artist after a stay in juvenile prison. Shamo , which will be translated into Spanish, English and German, was nominated for the Osamu Tezuka Culture Prize in 2003 and in two categories at the Festival International de la Bande Dessinée d'Angoulême in 2005.
In 2000, Hashimoto wrote the screenplay for Takashi Miike's film The Guys from Paradise .
