János Derzsi

János Derzsi (born April 20, 1954 in Nyírábrány , Hajdú-Bihar County ) is a Hungarian actor .

life and career

Derzsi graduated from the Színház University Drama School in Budapest in 1982 . Since then he has played at important theaters in his country such as the Hevesi Sándor , the Budapest Bábszínház , the Új Színház and currently, since 2013, the Vörösmarty Színház . Parallel to his theater roles, he has been in front of the camera for over 100 film and television productions since the late 1970s. Derzsi made international fame above all for his longstanding collaboration with the Hungarian star director Béla Tarr . He played major supporting roles in his films Satanstango (1994), Die Werckmeisterchen Harmonien (2000) and The Man from London (2007). In Béla Tarr's last film The Turin Horse from 2011, he finally got the lead role of a farmer who lives with his daughter in an apocalyptic wasteland and whose livelihood is gradually being deprived. In addition to Tarr, Derzsi shot with directors such as János Szász , Károly Makk and Nimród Antal .

In 1992 Derzsi was awarded the Mari Jászai Prize for his acting. He has been married since 1987 and has two children.
