The Man from London (alternative title: Der Mann aus London ; original title: A Londoni férfi ) is a feature film by the Hungarian director Béla Tarr from 2007. The film, shot in black and white, is an adaptation of the novel L'Homme de Londres by the Belgian author Georges Simenon . It premiered in competition at the 60th Cannes International Film Festival .

Maloin works as a shunter in a train station at the port. One night he watched from his watchtower how a man was knocked down and thrown into the docks with his suitcase. He fishes the suitcase out of the water and discovers a large number of British pound notes in it. He dries the money on a stove, but doesn't tell his wife or daughter about the find. Police inspector Morrison suspects a man named Brown to have committed the murder. He puts Brown in an inn and offers to waive further investigations in exchange for the return of the money. But Brown remains silent about the police inspector's suspicions and flees through the back door of the restaurant.

Characteristic of Béla Tarr's work are the extremely long plan sequences that usually stretch over several minutes. Overall, the film with a running time of 132 minutes only 29 settings .

The film was released in German cinemas on November 12, 2009.
