Location of the hunter barracks in Saxony

The Jägerkaserne is a barracks in Schneeberg , Saxony . It was built from 1946 and after 1991 was named "Jägerkaserne". The barracks are located in Wolfgangmaßen on the southwestern city limits of Schneeberg, in the Neustädtel district , on Alte Hohen Straße.

history

Saxon infantry had been stationed in Schneeberg since the beginning of the 18th century . In 1946, the SAG Wismut built a miners' settlement with accommodation and administration buildings on the site of what would later become the Jäger barracks in Wolfgangmaßen , into which units of the barracked people's police later moved. From 1963 a reserve training regiment of the National People's Army used the barracks. In the mid-1980s, the barracks were named Training Center 10 " Paul Fröhlich " and until 1989 housed the NCO IV, a mobilization base for a motorized rifle division and a missile department .

After the takeover by the Bundeswehr began on April 1, 1991 the formation of the Jägerregiment 57 , with the Jäger Battalion 571 and the Jäger Battalion 572. On September 30, 1996, both units were disbanded or, from October 1, 1996, reclassified to the 571 Mountain Hunters Battalion . At the same time, the supply company 370 was reorganized at the site. On January 17, 1997, about 100 soldiers of the 10th US Mountain Division temporarily moved to the barracks for training purposes. On February 22nd, 2007, with ski jumper Jens Weißflog as the guest speaker, the mountain troops stationed in the barracks took their last pledge on the Schneeberg market square. On September 14, 2007, the Mountain Infantry Battalion 571 and the supply company 370 were decommissioned and on March 31, 2008 the Jäger barracks were finally closed despite protests. In the meantime, the sports facilities of the barracks have been used by sports clubs from the region as a training and competition venue. Since the sale in 2009, the usage options no longer exist. From 2009, parts of the barracks accommodation were used as a home for asylum seekers for Macedonian Roma . In autumn 2013, several hundred asylum seekers were housed in the hunter barracks. Initially around 500 people lived in the accommodation, at the beginning of November 2013 there were 230. From 2015 to 2018, parts of the barracks were rebuilt for 28 million euros to accommodate the Schneeberg Police College.

Ownership since 2009 and allegation of wasting taxpayers' money

The barracks, which have been renovated by the federal government for around 65 million euros since 1990, consist of around 40 hectares of land and 40 buildings, and are said to have been offered to the Free State of Saxony in 2008 for a symbolic euro. In 2009, however, the barracks were sold to the Bavarian entrepreneur Gustav Struck for 2 million euros. The Free State of Saxony rented the barracks from 2012 to 2016 for around 2.7 million euros from various companies owned by Gustav Struck and finally bought them in 2016 for 14 million euros. Various print media, the TV broadcaster RTL, but also various politicians accuse those involved of wasting taxpayers' money. Small inquiries from the left and the AfD were only partially successful with reference to circumstances requiring confidentiality. In addition, information was only given to selected members of parliament and only during a secret meeting of the budget and finance committee of the state parliament and after a previous confidentiality resolution.
