Jämsä (administrative community)

The administrative community Jämsa ( Finnish Jämsän seutukunta ) is one of six administrative communities ( seutukunta ) in the Finnish landscape of central Finland . The region is covered by many large forest areas, one of the main economic factors is the paper industry.

The town of Jämsä and the municipality of Kuhmoinen belong to the Jämsa administrative community .

On January 1, 2007, the municipality of Längelmäki was divided between the cities of Jämsä and Orivesi , which also changed the boundaries of the administrative community.

In 2004, before Längelmäki was split up, 27,347 people lived in the region, although the population has been falling for years (1990: 29,433; 1980: 30,094).
