Jérôme Lejeune (born February 2, 1952 in Liège ) is a Belgian musicologist , musician, radio presenter and music editor.

Life

Jérôme Lejeune, son of the musicologist Suzanne Clercx-Lejeune (1910–1985), studied musicology at the University of Liège, his thesis dealt with the lyre viol (form of the bass viol in England in the 17th century). He learned to play the gamba at the Brussels Conservatory with Wieland Kuijken . Since 1976 he has been teaching music history at the Royal Conservatory in Liège, where, among other things, he is in charge of several projects on introducing early music . Parallel to his teaching activities, he moderates several early music programs on the French-speaking cultural broadcaster “Musiq'3”.

"Ricercar" label

In 1980 Lejeune founded the music label "RICERCAR" which meanwhile has around 400 CD recordings, almost all of which are based on historical performance practice , for which he wrote all the booklets. First companions in the early days of the label were the organist and harpsichordist Bernard Foccroulle , the gambist Philippe Pierlot and the violinist François Fernandez , who form the core of the Ricercar Ensemble, which moved to another label from 1999. He also launched the first recordings of the “Collegium Vocale Gent” and the “Chapelle Royale” under Philippe Herreweghe . The successful CD productions of the early days included the collections “ German Baroque Chamber Music ” and “ German Baroque Cantatas ” as well as the complete recording of Bach's organ works by Bernhard Foccroule.

In the last ten years new ensembles have been added to the label's repertoire, such as “La Fenice” under Jean Tubéry, “Millenarium”, “La Pastorella” under Frédéric de Roos , “Le Chœur de Chambre de Namur” (Namur Chamber Choir), the Baroque orchestras “Les Agrémens”, “La Caccia” or younger groups such as the “Ensemble Clematis”, “ Vox Luminis ” or “Scherzi Musicali under Nicolas Eighth ”. While Lejeune handled all the company's tasks in the early days of the label, in addition to teaching and research, in 2004 he handed over the administrative and commercial matters to Outhere, which unites several classic labels under one roof. So he can now concentrate on the recording and production management, as well as the musical research. Occasionally Leujeune takes on a viol part on recordings.
