Jógvan Fríðriksson [ ˈjɛgvan ˈfrʊirɪksɔn ] (born February 19, 1957 in Strendur , Faroe Islands ) is the first bishop to be ordained in the Folk Church of the Faroe Islands since it became independent from the Danish People's Church in 2007.

Jógvan Fríðriksson went to sea at a young age. In 1985 he passed his theological exam at the University of Aarhus . From 1986 he was pastor of the then Danish national church. 1992–2007 he was parish pastor in Innan Glyvur and responsible for the churches of Skáli , Strendur, Selatrað and Oyndarfjørður (parish Sjóvar prestagjald on Eysturoy ). After the national government of the Faroe Islands took over the national church on July 29, 2007 (to Ólavsøka ), a new bishop was sought in the Faroe Islands. On October 3, there was a choice between five candidates. In the runoff election on October 31, Fríðriksson prevailed.

On November 25, 2007, he was consecrated in the presence of several foreign bishops in the Tórshavner Cathedral and took office on December 1. At the episcopal ordination, the bishops from Greenland, Iceland, Norway and Finland recited Bible verses in their respective national languages.

Fríðriksson is considered a conservative clergyman.
