Jón frá Pálmholti

Jón frá Pálmholti (born May 25, 1930 as Jón Kjartansson on the Pálmholt farm in the former municipality of Arnarnes, today Hörgársveit , Iceland ; † December 13, 2004 ) was an Icelandic writer.

Life

He was born as Jón Kjartansson as the child of a farming family on his parents' farm at Eyjafjörður in northern Iceland. He went to the Laugar boarding school , where he obtained the secondary school leaving certificate . This was followed by training at the teachers' college in Reykjavík , which he broke off. He then worked in various professions.

He called himself Jón frá Pálmholti after his parents' court and published several volumes of poetry. He also wrote short stories and worked as a novelist. In 1962 and 1963, Jón served on the board of the Icelandic Writers' Union. From 1970 to 1988 he was also a board member of the Icelandic Neo-Pagan Association Ásatrúarfélagið .
