Jóse Artes de Arcos (born February 27, 1893 in Alhama de Almería , † January 1, 1985 ibid) was a Spanish inventor and entrepreneur.

Life

Jóse Artes was born in Alhama in 1893 as the son of the Gabriel Artés Pascual family of bakers and his wife María de Arcos . After elementary school, at the age of twelve he worked the night shift in his parents' bakery. He was more interested in technical things, however, and he spends most of his free time reading physical and technical treatises and designing and manufacturing everyday objects.

In 1910 he left his place of birth and worked in various companies as a technician, such as for "Sota Aznar" and "Cía. Española de San Juan de las Minas" in the city of Melilla , an exclave on the North African coast. In this city, Jóse Artes de Arcos became known for his first patent. It was a rotary piston engine that was patented in Spain under number 61714. Around five hundred inventions and patents followed in the course of his life.

In 1918 he moved to Barcelona , where he was responsible for the repair of marine engines in a company. In 1927 he founded his first company and manufactured supplier parts for the automotive industry. During this time, along with numerous other patents, his most famous and productive patent, the “bocina de aspiración”, a sequential horn , which was copied by most countries and used worldwide, was created.

Over the years his company has held an important place in the automotive world as a supplier and Jóse Artes de Arcos was awarded the Spanish Medal of Merit Orden del Mérito Civil in 1965. In 1966, Jóse Artes de Arcos began as a designer and manufacturer of racing cars and automobiles in Barcelona. The series Guepardo, Campeador and Gato Montés were created.

José Artes de Arcos had production centers in Barcelona, ​​Madrid and Almería, which became known for their products as a supplier to automobile manufacturers.
