Józef Młynarczyk (born September 20, 1953 in Nowa Sól ) is a former Polish football goalkeeper for the Polish national team.
He began his football career in teams from Nowa Sól: Astra and Polonia (Dozamet) until 1974. From 1974 to 1977 he played for BKS Stal Bielsko-Biała, where his long-term collaboration with coach Antoni Piechniczek began. With his help Młynarczyk moved to the first division and played for the team of Odra Opole. On February 18, 1979 he made his debut for the national team under coach Ryszard Kulesza in the game against Tunisia .
In 1980 he moved to Widzew Łódź , where he and his team became Polish champions in 1981 and 1982. In 1983 he even reached the semi-finals in the European Cup with Widzew .
In the national team he was first substitute goalkeeper behind Zygmunt Kukla and Piotr Mowlik. He only became the first goalkeeper when Antoni Piechniczek took over the role of coach. Młynarczyk took part in the 1982 World Cup in Spain , where Poland was third, and in the 1986 World Cup in Mexico , where Poland was eliminated in the second round against Brazil. After the World Cup, he ended his career in the national team of Poland . In total, he was used in 42 national team games, including 9 as captain.
In 1984 he moved from Widzew Łódź to France to SC Bastia . In the middle of the 1985/86 season, which Bastia finished as a relegated bottom of the table, he moved to the Portuguese club FC Porto , where he should achieve the greatest successes of his career. In 1986 and 1988 he was Portuguese champion, in 1988 cup winner and in 1987 - as the second Pole after Zbigniew Boniek , who won the title with Juventus in 1985 - European cup winner with a 2-1 victory over FC Bayern in Vienna and a second in Tokyo : 1 success after extra time against CA Peñarol World Cup winner.
Józef Młynarczyk ended his football career in 1989. Since then he has worked as a coach, a. a. as goalkeeping coach at FC Porto , assistant coach for the Polish national team at Andrzej Strejlau and Jerzy Engel , in the United Arab Emirates with Antoni Piechniczek and in the Polish club team Wisła Płock , Widzew Łódź and most recently Lech Poznań. He currently runs his own haulage company in Łódź.
