Jörg-Andreas Krüger

Jörg-Andreas Krüger (* 1968 in Göttingen ) has been President of the German Nature Conservation Union (NABU) since November 2019 .

Jörg-Andreas Krüger has been a member of NABU since 1982 and completed his community service at the nature conservation organization. After completing his training as an administrative officer in 1989, he studied landscape architecture from 1992 to 1998 at the Freising University of Applied Sciences with a degree in engineering .

He then worked as an employee of Christian Magerl , a member of the Bavarian State Parliament. In 1999 he moved to NABU Lower Saxony and from 2004 to 2013 headed the Department for Nature Conservation and Environmental Policy in the NABU Federal Association, from 2010 also in the role of Deputy Federal Manager. Krüger has been a member of the WWF management team since 2017 . The focus of his work at WWF was "the development and implementation of political strategies for energy, climate and agricultural policy, for the protection and preservation of forests and freshwater ecosystems as well as work in markets and cooperation with companies."

Krüger was unanimously elected as the new NABU President on November 9, 2019 at the Federal Representative Assembly of NABU. His predecessor Olaf Tschimpke had not run for office after 16 years in office. Shortly after his election, Krüger stated at the NABU state representative assembly in Brandenburg : “Nature and climate protection are more important today than ever before. More and more people understand that the future of their livelihoods is at stake. They feel rightly personally affected by the death of bees and insects, plastic waste, waste of resources and climate change. ... People want something to change. "
