Jörg A. Schlumberger

Jörg A. Schlumberger (born October 10, 1939 in Bösingen ) is a German ancient historian .

Jörg A. Schlumberger received his doctorate in 1972 at the University of Tübingen with the thesis Die Epitome de Caesaribus . Investigations into pagan historiography of the 4th century AD. 1980 the habilitation and the appointment as a private lecturer also took place there . In 1984 he was appointed professor and moved in this position to the University of Bayreuth , where he taught as a professor of ancient history until his retirement . Schlumberger has been co-editor of the Bayreuth Historical Colloquia since 1986 . His work focuses on historiography and the social history of late antiquity .
