Jörg Dierken

Jörg Dierken (* 1959 ) is a German Protestant theologian and since 2010 Professor of Systematic Theology with a focus on ethics at the Theological Faculty of the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg .

biography

Dierken studied theology and philosophy at the Universities of Göttingen , Heidelberg and Frankfurt am Main . In 1987 he received his doctorate from the University of Heidelberg with a thesis on Hegel's philosophy of religion (see also: Philosophy of Religion ). He then completed a vicariate in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oldenburg . With a scholarship from the Fritz Thyssen Foundation , Dierken was able to complete his habilitation in 1994. He then became a private lecturer for systematic theology at the University of Frankfurt am Main.

From 1995 to 2010 Dierken was Professor of Systematic Theology with a focus on ethics and religious philosophy at the University of Hamburg and at the same time from 2005 to 2008 founding dean of the Faculty of Humanities .

Jörg Dierken has been teaching as professor for systematic theology / ethics at the theological faculty of the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg since 2010 . From 2010 to 2014 he was the spokesman for the Saxony-Anhalt state research focus on Enlightenment - Religion - Knowledge. Dierken is co-editor of the Complete Critical Edition of the Works of Friedrich Schleiermacher , published by De Gruyter . At the same time, he is co-editor of the Schleiermacher archive that accompanies the complete edition.

Research priorities

Jörg Dierken's main research areas include the fundamentals of theological ethics and current material ethical problems, especially in medicine and biopolitics as well as in law and economics. He also devotes himself to the religious-philosophical present-day significance of the Enlightenment and German idealism , the questions of subjectivity and intersubjectivity, and the connection between Protestantism and modern culture.
