Jörg Kessen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jörg Kessen (born September 7, 1960 ) is a former German soccer player and later coach who played 26 second division games for MSV Duisburg . His twin brother Ralf Kessen also played at this level at times.

Player career

In the 1980s, defender Jörg Kessen played together with his brother Ralf at the traditional Hochfeld club Duisburg FV 08 . With this they competed in the then fourth-class association league Niederrhein. From the DFV, both moved in 1987 to the neighboring MSV Duisburg , which after many years of membership in the top two divisions only appeared in the third-class Oberliga Nordrhein . Jörg Kessen established himself there as a regular player in defense and reached the promotion round to the 2nd Bundesliga in 1988 with his teammates, in which the team failed. A year later, however, succeeded in returning to professional football; by then he had played 61 league games with one goal of his own.

Unlike his brother Ralf, he was still part of the squad in the 1989/90 season and made his second division debut on July 29, 1989, when he was on the field from the start with a 2-1 win in the opening game against Alemannia Aachen . At that time he was already 28 years old. In the following period he was used regularly, even if he no longer had a permanent seat. He achieved a place in the middle of the table with the MSV and had played a total of 26 second division games without scoring his own before he left the MSV in the summer of 1990. Afterwards, the almost 30-year-old did not find any further employment as a professional footballer.

Trainer and functionary career

From 1996 on, the brothers Jörg and Ralf Kessen were equal coaches at their former club Duisburger FV 08. With this they competed in the association league. They parted ways in 1998 when Jörg coached the first team of SC Kleve 63 from then on .

Later he worked for the Duisburger SV 1900 from the Wanheimerort district for a long time . He took over this first in 2003 and led him three years later in the sixth class national league. After a clear 5-0 defeat against TuRa 88 Duisburg , he gave up his post in December 2007, but took over the function again some time later. He stayed with the team in the national league before he left again in 2012 due to differences with club officials.

In February 2014 he was introduced to the DSV 1900 as the new sports director after there had been speculation about his return as a coach. Shortly afterwards, he hired his twin brother Ralf to become a coach. Both brothers are also members of the traditional team of MSV Duisburg.
