Jörg Kleemann (archaeologist)

Jörg Kleemann (* 1962 in Berlin ) is a German medieval archaeologist .

Life

From 1981, Jörg Kleemann studied prehistory , medieval history and art history at the Free University of Berlin and since 1984 at the University of Bonn . There he received his doctorate in 1991 under Volker Bierbrauer with a thesis on grave finds from the 8th and 9th centuries in the northern outskirts of the Carolingian Empire. From 1991 to 1994 he worked as an excavation archaeologist, since the winter semester of 1994 Kleemann was a lecturer at the Humboldt University in Berlin , and from 1995 to 1997 he received a research grant from the DFG. In Berlin he also received his habilitation in 1992 with a thesis on gun graves during the late imperial and early migration period in northern and eastern Germany and was appointed as a private lecturer at the Humboldt University from 2004 to 2011. Visiting professorships led him to the University of Budapest and Lublin . From 2006 to 2009 Kleemann teaches as an associate professor at the University of Lublin. He then became a professor at the University of Szczecin . He heads the international educational excavation in Malbork - Wielbark .

Kleemann deals with questions of the interaction between ancient high and marginal cultures based on archaeological sources, the social developments of ancient marginal cultures and the mobility of individuals and groups in early history . Another focus is studies on Mediterranean belts used in men's clothing from the 5th and 6th centuries.
