Life

Scheuerbrandt studied Roman provincial archeology and finished his studies in 1995 at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg with a master's thesis on Roman grave monuments from Sontheim an der Brenz . The work was based on an excavation carried out in 1992 and 1993 on a Roman burial ground, during which Scheuerbrandt, as a student, was continuously responsible for the local excavation management.

After completing his studies, Scheuerbrandt got a job at the Württemberg State Museum and in 2004 completed his dissertation , supervised by Hans Ulrich Nuber (1940–2014), on the tasks, organization and command structure of Roman armies during the imperial era. In 2005 he became the first full-time museum director of the Römermuseum Osterburken and at the same time received the post of museum officer in the Neckar-Odenwald district .

After the Upper German-Raetian Limes was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in September 2006, Scheuerbrandt was able to open the extension of the Limes Museum in Osterburken as one of four information centers on the Roman border in Germany. The archaeologist developed the vivid museum operation into a place of learning and experimentation and professionalized the marketing. The “Limespark Osterburken” project is an important concern of his, and it has led to several complex and clear results. This includes, among other things, the reconstruction of a Limes watchtower corresponding to the current state of research in the “Förstlein” area, which was inaugurated in autumn 2013, as well as the redesign of the fort area, on which a reversible metal frame in the form of a fort gate was erected in autumn 2014, which unites the visitors To give an impression of the height and the outline of such a structure.

Scheuerbrandt is married to the Roman provincial archaeologist Nicole Scheuerbrandt, née Lambert.
