Jörg Sommer (born August 1, 1963 in Heilbronn ) is a German author of books for children and young people and an environmentalist.

Life

Writer, editor

Sommer writes books for children and young people together with his wife Gerit Kopietz . Her repertoire ranges from non-fiction books to parenting and teaching guides to picture books. 160 titles have been published by Sommer and Kopietz, which have been translated into up to 29 languages. The total circulation of her books is around 3,000,000 copies. One of the bestsellers is OXMOX OX MOLLOX. Children play Indian (1992), which had 21 editions and of which 120,000 copies were sold. In 1998, together with Gerit Kopietz, he published the interactive children's crime series ZAP for ten to twelve year olds.

He is also an author of non-fiction books and publisher of periodicals, so u. a. as editor of the course book Citizen Participation, as co-editor of the year book ecology and the magazine movum .

Sommer is one of the founders of the first German-language children's book author network KIBULI and a member of the Association of German Writers .

Since 2009 he has been chairman of the board of the German Environmental Foundation . He is also Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Kant Foundation . From 2014 to 2016, as a representative of the social groups, he was also a member of the Commission for the Storage of Highly Radioactive Waste (Repository Commission) in accordance with Section 3 of the Site Selection Act .

In 2017 he was appointed founding director of the Institute for Participation, a non-partisan think tank that aims to develop elements of political participation beyond elections. The institute also directs the Alliance Diverse Democracy network .
