Jörg Spranger

Jörg Spranger (* 1911 in Deggendorf ; † 2008 ) was a German church musician and composer.

Life

Jörg Spranger studied from 1929 to 1932 at the church music school in Regensburg. Joseph Renner and Theobald Schrems were among his teachers . From 1935 to 1978 he worked - with an interruption due to military service and Soviet imprisonment - as choir director at the parish church "Mariä Himmelfahrt" in Deggendorf. For his services as a church musician and composer he was awarded the Orlando di Lasso Medal of the Cecilia Association in 1981.

Works

Most of Spranger's compositions are of a spiritual nature and intended for use in worship. The German National Library lists 75 titles from Spranger's compositions in its German Music Archive , as well as seven arrangements made by Spranger. The publication years of the works begin in 1956 and extend (with a posthumous title) to 2009.
