The coat of arms was introduced on July 22, 1983. It can be traced back to the coat of arms of Audun Hugleiksson . He was executed in 1302. He was a nobleman in the Middle Ages who founded Jølster and built Audunborg . This castle is one of only two privately built stone castles in Norway. He had a rose on his coat of arms, surrounded by a border of lilies . Jølster's coat of arms can be traced back to this border. The symbol is gold on a red background.
