Júlia Murat

Júlia Murat (born November 1979 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a Brazilian filmmaker.

Life

Júlia Murat is the daughter of the cineast , film director and political activist Lúcia Murat (* 1948). She initially studied graphic design at the Art School of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro until 2003 and later switched to studying screenwriting at the Escola de Cinema Darcy Ribeiro , graduating in 2004. After a few short films, her documentary Dia dos pais was at the Cinéma du Réel Festival in Paris Premiered. Her feature film debut, Histórias que só existem quando lembradas , premiered at the Venice International Film Festival and received a total of 39 international awards, including best film at the Abu Dhabi, Sofia and Lima festivals.

In 2017 she received an invitation to the Berlinale with her second feature film Pendular . The film received the FIPRESCI jury's prize in the “Panorama” section.
