history

Jewish school in Ichenhausen

The Jewish school was founded in Ichenhausen because the second largest Jewish community in Bavaria was located there in the 19th century . It began as a temporary measure in the Jewish community center after a protest was raised against the possible education of 110 Jewish children of school age in the Catholic elementary school .

The Bavarian state wanted Jewish schools to be founded, which is why the Günzburg district court (comparable to today's district administration) ordered the construction of a Jewish school building in 1830. The Jewish community then purchased a piece of land to build a school building with two classrooms and two teacher's apartments. Classes could begin in the new school building in 1833.

time of the nationalsocialism

The school existed until it was forced to close on September 12, 1941.
