The Jewish cemetery in Bidache , a French commune in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region , was laid out in the second half of the 17th century. The cemetery is located on Route départementale 653 and has been a protected cultural monument ( Monument historique ) since 1995 .

history

The Lords of Gramont allowed Jewish refugees from Spain and Portugal to settle in Bidache at the end of the 16th century. In 1665 they were able to set up their own Jewish cemetery , which was occupied until the second half of the 18th century. At the end of the 18th century, the Jewish community dissolved due to emigration to the neighboring cities.

The cemetery still has around 100 tombstones ( Mazevot ).
