Jewish cemetery (Hahnheim)
The Jewish cemetery in Hahnheim , a local community in the Mainz-Bingen district in Rhineland-Palatinate , was laid out around 1884. The 11.22 ares large Jewish cemetery is located at the southern end of Hahnheim.
history
The last burial took place in September 1938 (Emil Trum). In March 1945 the cemetery was destroyed when the tombstones were used to build an anti-tank barrier . In 1948 the cemetery was restored. Today 16 tombs or fragments are still preserved.
Commemoration
There is a memorial stone in the cemetery for the Jewish victims during the Nazi era . The inscription reads: “In memory of the members of the Hahnheim Jewish community who perished under the Nazi regime. The cemetery was destroyed by the Nazis in 1945 and the gravestones were used as an anti-tank barrier ”.
