The Jewish cemetery Quernheim is a well-preserved Jewish cemetery in the town Quernheim of Altes Amt Lemförde in Lower Saxony Diepholz . It is recognized as a cultural monument worthy of protection.

description

The cemetery is located in Quernheim on the street “Im Sande”. This is a place on the edge of a forest near the road to Brockum. The 79 gravestones document the Jewish deceased in the region from 1732 to 1934. There is also a grave with 27 Russian prisoners of war in the cemetery .

history

The Jew Levi Heidemann bought a sandy hill in 1731 as a burial place for his relatives. The square later became the property of the Jewish community and was expanded. The cemetery was occupied from 1732 to 1942, but the youngest tombstone dates from 1934. In 1942, the Jewish cemetery in Diepholz was reburied.
