history

The exact age of the Jewish cemetery in Lang-Göns is not known. However, it must have been created between 1884 and 1888. Until 1884 the Jewish cemetery in Großen-Linden was used as a collective cemetery for Gießen and 22 surrounding villages. Gravestone no. 2 for Lea Frensdorf made of red sandstone dates from December 25, 1888. In the years 1911 to 1917, the adjacent Eselsweg was razed as part of land consolidation . With the consent of the chairman of the Jewish community, the graves were filled by 1.30 meters.

The area has an area of 215 m² and is enclosed by a hornbeam hedge. All graves face east-west. The six oldest graves are missing grave borders, which may be related to the filling of the area in the 1910s. A total of 14 tombstones have been completely or partially preserved. The fragments indicate multiple desecrations. An off standing grave stone could have been drawn up for a 1,919 imprisoned Polish Jews, the suicide committed.
