Willard Arnold Johnson
Willard Arnold Johnson (born August 28, 1862 in Minnesota , † May 5, 1923 in Memphis , Texas ) was an American politician . Between 1919 and 1921 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Texas.
Career
Willard Johnson studied political science and journalism at the University of Texas . He lived in Denison until 1890 , when he moved to Memphis, Hall County . In September 1891 he acquired the Hall County Herald newspaper , which he published with great success. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1910 and 1918 he was a member of the Texas Senate . During this time, he brought an unsuccessful motion for the partition of the state. The new state should have been named Jefferson . In 1917 he was involved in the impeachment proceedings against Governor James E. Ferguson .
In 1918, Johnson was elected Lieutenant Governor of Texas alongside William P. Hobby . He held this office between 1919 and 1921. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. Johnson was also a member of several press associations and the Freemasons . He died in Memphis on May 5, 1923.
