Asbury Bascom Davidson

Asbury Bascom Davidson (born November 13, 1855 in Lincoln County , Tennessee , †  February 4, 1920 ) was an American politician . Between 1907 and 1913 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Texas .

Career

Before 1870, Asbury Davidson came to Williamson County in Texas with his parents . He graduated from Southwestern University . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer, he began to work in Gonzales in this profession. In the early 1880s, he moved his residence and law firm to Cuero . In the late 1880s he was a district attorney in the 24th judicial district of Texas for eight years.

Politically, Davidson was a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1899 and 1906 he was a member of the Texas Senate . In 1906 he was elected lieutenant governor of his state alongside Thomas Mitchell Campbell . He held this office after two re-elections between 1907 and 1913. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. From 1911 he served under the new governor Oscar Branch Colquitt . After serving as Lieutenant Governor, Davidson served on the board of directors of the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas , now Texas A&M University . He died on February 4, 1920.
