Leonidas Jefferson Storey
Leonidas Jefferson Storey (born October 6, 1834 in Chattooga County , Georgia , † March 28, 1909 ) was an American politician . Between 1881 and 1883 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Texas .
Career
In 1845, Leonidas Storey and his parents first came to Gonzales and two years later to Lockhart , Texas. He attended Austin College , among other places . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer, he worked in Lockhart in this profession from 1859. During the civil war he served in the Confederation Army , in which he rose to captain.
After the war he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1873 and 1875 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Texas ; from 1876 to 1880 he was a member of the State Senate . In 1880, Storey was elected Lieutenant Governor of Texas, alongside Oran M. Roberts . He held this office between 1881 and 1883. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. From 1892 until his death on March 28, 1909 Storey was a member and from 1903 chairman of the railway commission of his state.
