George D. Neal

George D. Neal (born October 7, 1853 in Amelia Courthouse , Amelia County , Virginia , †  July 13, 1916 in Navasota , Texas ) was an American politician . Between 1903 and 1907 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Texas.

Career

In 1866, George Neal came to Texas with his parents, where his father practiced as a doctor in Washington-on-the-Brazos . He attended the public schools in his respective homeland and then studied at Baylor University and the University of Texas . After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1878, he began to work in this profession. From 1881 he lived in Navasota. Between 1884 and 1886 he was a district judge in Grimes County there ; from 1888 to 1896 he was the legal representative of the city of Navasota.

Politically, Neal was a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1897 and 1902 he sat in the Texas Senate , where he was President Pro Tempore acting chairman of that body for the last legislature . In 1902 he was elected Lieutenant Governor of Texas at the side of Samuel WT Lanham . He held this office between 1903 and 1907. He was Deputy Governor and formal chairman of the State Senate. After serving as Lieutenant Governor, Neal returned to practice as a lawyer. He died on July 13, 1916 in Navasota.
