Lincoln County is a county in the state of Tennessee in the United States . The county seat is Fayetteville .

The county is located in southern Tennessee, bordering Alabama and has an area of 1,478 square kilometers, of which 1 square kilometer is water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Bedford County , Moore County , Franklin County , Madison County, Alabama, Limestone County, Alabama, Giles County, and Marshall Counties .
history
Lincoln County was formed on November 14, 1809 from parts of Bedford County. It was named after Benjamin Lincoln , a Continental Army general in the American Revolutionary War and a key figure in the Battle of Yorktown .

As of the 2000 census , Lincoln County had 31,340 people in 12,503 households and 9,077 families. The population density was 21 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 90.26 percent white, 7.35 percent African American, 0.49 percent Native American, 0.32 percent Asian, 0.03 percent from the Pacific island area and 0.34 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.19 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.02 percent of the population.
Of the 12,503 households, 31.6 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 58.2 percent were married couples living together, 10.9 percent were single mothers, and 27.4 percent were non-families. 24.6 percent were single households and 11.6 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.47 and the average household size was 2.93 people.
23.9 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 8.0 percent between 18 and 24, 27.7 percent between 25 and 44, 24.9 percent between 45 and 64 and 15.6 percent were older than 65. The mean age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were statistically 93.9 males and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 90.8 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 33,434 , and the median income for a family is $ 41,211. Males had a median income of $ 30,917 versus $ 21,722 for females. The per capita income was $ 18,837. 10.0 percent of families and 13.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
