The Anderson County is a county in the US state of Tennessee . At the 2010 census , the county had 75,129 people and a population density of 86 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Clinton , named after George Clinton , former Governor of New York and second Vice President of the United States.
The county is part of the Knoxville Metropolitan Statistical Area , the metropolitan area around the city of Knoxville .
geography
The county is located in northeastern Tennessee and about 60 km to the north from Kentucky and the western tip of Virginia . It has an area of 893 square kilometers, of which 19 square kilometers are water.
The county is traversed by the Clinch River , which is part of the Mississippi basin via the Tennessee River and the Ohio . In the northeast of the county is Norris Lake, formed by the Norris Dam, one of the numerous dams along the Clinch River that the Tennessee Valley Authority built to generate energy.

history
Anderson County was formed on November 6, 1801 from former parts of Grainger County and Knox County. It was named after Joseph Anderson (1757–1837), an officer in the American Revolutionary War , later judge in the Southwest Territory (1791–1797), US Senator from Tennessee (1797–1815) and first auditor in the US Treasury (1815– 1836).
