Van Buren County is a county in the state of Tennessee in the United States . The county seat is Spencer .

The county is east of the geographic center of Tennessee and has an area of ​​711 square kilometers, of which 3 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: White County , Cumberland County , Bledsoe County , Sequatchie County, and Warren County .

history

Van Buren County was formed on January 3, 1840 from parts of Bledsoe County, Warren County and White County. It was named after Martin Van Buren , the eighth US president .

The Crain Hill School and Church is one of three entries for the county in the NRHP.

Three buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of September 5, 2018).
