Cumberland County is a county in the state of Tennessee in the United States . The county seat is Crossville .

The county is located northeast of the geographic center of Tennessee, is approximately 80 km to the north from Kentucky and has an area of 1774 square kilometers, of which 9 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Fentress County , Morgan County , Roane County , Rhea County , Bledsoe County , Van Buren County , White County, and Putnam Counties .

history
Cumberland County was formed on November 16, 1855 from parts of Bledsoe, Morgan, Putnam, Rhea, Roane, Van Buren and White Counties. It was named after the Cumberland Mountains , which stretch from central Tennessee over the eastern corner of Kentucky to Virginia .
Eight structures and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of August 13, 2018).

According to the 2000 census , Cumberland County had 46,802 people in 19,508 households and 14,513 families. The population density was 27 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.11 percent white, 0.13 percent African American, 0.25 percent Native American, 0.24 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.45 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.79 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.23 percent of the population.
Of the 19,508 households, 26.6 percent had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 61.8 percent were married couples living together, 9.6 percent were single mothers, and 25.6 percent were non-families. 22.4 percent were single households and 10.2 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.37 and the average household size was 2.74 people.
21.4 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 6.7 percent between 18 and 24, 25.1 percent between 25 and 44, 26.3 percent between 45 and 64 and 20.5 percent were older than 65. The mean age was 42 years. Statistically, for every 100 females there were 94.4 males and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 91.6 males.
The median income for a household in the 30,901 USD , and the median income for a family was 35,928 USD. Males had a median income of $ 26,559 versus $ 20,644 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,808. 11.1 percent of families and 14.7 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
