Cumberland County is a county in the state of Tennessee in the United States . The county seat is Crossville .

The county is located northeast of the geographic center of Tennessee, is approximately 80 km to the north from Kentucky and has an area of ​​1774 square kilometers, of which 9 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Fentress County , Morgan County , Roane County , Rhea County , Bledsoe County , Van Buren County , White County, and Putnam Counties .

Cumberland County was formed on November 16, 1855 from parts of Bledsoe, Morgan, Putnam, Rhea, Roane, Van Buren and White Counties. It was named after the Cumberland Mountains , which stretch from central Tennessee over the eastern corner of Kentucky to Virginia .

The Palace Theater is one of eight entries for the county in the NRHP.

Eight structures and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of August 13, 2018).

According to the 2000 census , Cumberland County had 46,802 people in 19,508 households and 14,513 families. The population density was 27 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.11 percent white, 0.13 percent African American, 0.25 percent Native American, 0.24 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.45 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.79 percent were descended from two or more races.
