The warship USS Bledsoe County was named after the county in 1955 .

The county is located in southeastern Tennessee, about 50 km from Alabama and Georgia to the south. It has an area of 1053 square kilometers, of which 1 square kilometer is water.
The county is traversed from northeast to southwest by the Sequatchie River , which is part of the Mississippi River basin via the Tennessee River and the Ohio .

Bledsoe County was formed on November 30, 1807 from parts of Roane County. It was named after one or more members of the Bledsoe family who were early settlers in the region in the 18th century.
Eight structures and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of August 9, 2018).

As of the 2010 census , Bledsoe County had 12,876 people in 4,556 households. The population density was 12.2 people per square kilometer. Statistically, 2.55 people lived in each of the 4556 households.
The racial the population was composed of 94.1 percent white, 4.0 percent African American, 0.5 percent Native American, 0.2 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 1.2 percent were descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity, 2.2 percent of the population was Hispanic or Latino of any race.
