The county is located in southeastern Tennessee, about 50 km from Alabama and Georgia to the south. It has an area of ​​1053 square kilometers, of which 1 square kilometer is water.

The county is traversed from northeast to southwest by the Sequatchie River , which is part of the Mississippi River basin via the Tennessee River and the Ohio .

Bledsoe County was formed on November 30, 1807 from parts of Roane County. It was named after one or more members of the Bledsoe family who were early settlers in the region in the 18th century.

The John Bridgman House is one of eight entries for the county in the NRHP.

Eight structures and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of August 9, 2018).

As of the 2010 census , Bledsoe County had 12,876 people in 4,556 households. The population density was 12.2 people per square kilometer. Statistically, 2.55 people lived in each of the 4556 households.
