The Loudon County is a county in the state of Tennessee of the United States . The county seat is Loudon .

The county is located in east Tennessee, about 40 miles from North Carolina and has an area of ​​641 square kilometers, of which 48 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Knox County , Blount County , Monroe County , McMinn County, and Roane Counties .

history

Loudon County was formed on June 2, 1870 from parts of Blount County, Monroe County and Roane County and was first named Christiana . On 7th 1870 it was renamed to its present name. The name is reminiscent of John Campbell , 4th Earl of Loudoun and Governor of the Colony of Virginia from 1756 to 1759.

The Blair's Ferry Storehouse is one of 21 entries for the county in the NRHP.

According to the 2000 census , Loudon County had 39,086 people in 15,944 households and 11,798 families. The population density was 66 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 95.90 percent white, 1.14 percent African American, 0.32 percent Native American, 0.21 percent Asian, 0.02 percent from the Pacific island area and 1.43 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.98 percent were descended from two or more races. 2.29 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

The median income for a household in the county is $ 40,401 , and the median income for a family is $ 46,517. Males had a median income of $ 33,567 versus $ 23,164 for females. The per capita income was $ 21,061. 6.9 percent of families and 10.0 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
