Jackson County is a county in the state of Tennessee in the United States . The county seat is Gainesboro .

The county is located northwest of the geographic center of Tennessee, is about 30 km to the north from Kentucky and has an area of ​​828 square kilometers, of which 28 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Clay County , Overton County , Putnam County , Smith County, and Macon County .

history

Jackson County was formed on November 6, 1801 from parts of Smith County. It was named after Andrew Jackson , the seventh US president .

The Gainesboro Historic District is one of the county's four entries in the NRHP.

Four buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of August 18, 2018).
