Jefferson County is a county in the state of Tennessee in the United States . The county seat is Dandridge .

The county is located in northeast Tennessee, about 45 km from North Carolina in the southeast , and has an area of 814 square kilometers, of which 105 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Hamblen Counties , Cocke Counties , Sevier Counties , Knox Counties , and Grainger Counties .
history
Jefferson County was formed on June 11, 1792 from parts of Greene County and Hawkins County. It was named after Thomas Jefferson , the third US president .
Twelve structures and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of August 18, 2018).

According to the 2000 census , Jefferson County had 44,294 people in 17,155 households and 12,608 families. The population density was 62 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 95.66 percent white, 2.32 percent African American, 0.31 percent Native American, 0.27 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.63 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.77 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.33 percent of the population.
Of the 17,155 households, 31.0 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 59.9 percent were married couples living together, 9.8 percent were single mothers, and 26.5 percent were non-families. 22.5 percent were single households and 8.2 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.49 and the average household size was 2.89 people.
22.9 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 10.6 percent between 18 and 24, 29.1 percent between 25 and 44, 24.5 percent between 45 and 64 and 12.9 percent were older than 65. The mean age was 36 years. Statistically, there were 97.5 males for every 100 females and 94.0 males for every 100 females aged 18 and over.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 32,824 , and the median income for a family is $ 38,537. Males had a median income of $ 29,123 versus $ 20,269 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,841. 9.6 percent of families and 13.4 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
